100 Hot Chicks Flash Mob

This video is starting to make the rounds on the web because it has the ultimate formula for viral fame: hot chicks and goofy dancing. One hundred Brittish women organized a flash mob and danced to Beyonce’s Put a Ring On It in the middle of London’s famous Piccadilly Circus.

Flash mobs are secret gatherings of  large groups of people in a public space where they act out some sort of performance art and then quickly disperse. Although they started as a social experiment in the form of massive pillow fights or silent raves, they have since been used as publicity stunts for numerous products.

The Put a Ring On It flashmob seems to be promoting a Beyonce concert in the UK sponsored by Trident. As I’m writing this, the video is up to a half million views on YouTube. T-Mobile orgainzed another dancing flashmob in the Liverpool Street train station earlier this year. The video garnered over 10 million views.

Part of what I think will make the Beyonce flashmob video hugely popular is that the internet has already gone crazy for anything related to Put a Ring On It. There are over 1,000 search results on YouTube including countless homemade videos like the fat guy (possibly NSFW due to side-sack), Justin Timberlake , these gay guys, and little girls  to name a  few.

It probably wont be long before marketers completely kill whatever charm the idea of flashmobs may have left, but I still think they are pretty interesting. Does anybody know if there has ever been a flashmob organized in the Miami area? After a brief search I found one by Miami of Ohio University and one on CSI: Miami, which are both lame.

Let’s do one!
